The low-voltage driver that converts supply power to the operating voltage of the LED strip has failed after years of thermal cycling. This is the most common failure point on DEC and CL series columns after six or more years.

The LED strip itself has developed an open circuit at one of the segment solder points, causing part or all of the strip to go dark while the driver continues to function.
